After you’ve pressed OK, Calibre starts running the conversion job. There’s an indicator at the bottom right of Calibre’s main window that shows you the number of jobs remaining. Clicking this will give you more information, as shown below.

It packs quite a punch. You can use Calibre to automatically download covers and metadata. Keep your own custom fields (for example, a Boolean have-read) and keep books of a single series together. Add to this Calibre’s ability to process otherwise incompatible files for your Kindle. For library management of all kinds, the Kindle applications just don’t measure up. However, to use Collections (Kindle’s way of letting you group several book in a type of folder) on your Kindle, you’ll have to keep using the Kindle applications. This is because Calibre is designed to work with a multitude of different eBook readers and even though you can create Series and Tags, Calibre is unfamiliar with the notion of Collections.

Because some files might be partly damaged, download the ebooks again can solve this problem which is caused by the damage of files. For Kindle Books, if they are lent to you by your friends, they might not be converted. In other words, only the ebooks have no limitation of reading time can be converted. If some ebooks or the ebooks from Kinde device can't be converted, you can download the ebooks again via Kindle for PC/Mac, then convert it.

My reg'ed copy of avast (latest version) worked fine under 10.5. I've upgraded to 10.6 and expected some software to have bugs or not work until there upgraded, but avast! On my mac has a really annoying one. Avast for mac problems troubleshooting.

The Calibre Advantage. While companies such as Amazon employ DRM (Digital Rights Management) to prevent you from sharing books between multiple devices, Calibre frees you from such constraints and offers total control over your e-book collection.

I loaded the plugin a couple of times, I exited Calibre a couple of times, and did all the things suggested with no luck. I then tried to convert to.mobi vs.epub and again met with failure (i.e., the DRM warning dialog indicating you’re SOL). Not giving up, I then deleted all the other books in the Calibre library (careful – Calibre has a nasty habit of really DELETING all your books), exited the program, and when I opened it again and tried to add the single book I wanted to convert, it said it was in.mobi format. It said it failed, so what’s up with that? I tried the book, it works fine in.mobi.

Disclaimer: Removing DRM is a highly-controversial subject, and is considered illegal in some countries, including the US and Canada. Create labels from an existing word document. These are collections that you have created on the device and not through Calibre. Uncheck if you want to control all the collections through Calibre.

But now I’ve finally gotten sick of Amazon and their format shifting game, and am transitioning to epub files to read on Nook instead. The 5.1 tools have an equally good plugin for working with epub, and most other standard formats.

The Kindle Collections icon shows up in the bottom of your Calibre screen. I have the goodreads plugin installed and it shows up next to the Kindle Collections: Automatic Collections You can create collections based on: Author Sort, Authors, Publishes, Read, Series, Tags, Title, and User Categories. (See my advice in Step 1 re using these automatic collections).

Then you you can convert all your Kindle Books quickly to the Ebooks which can be read on any Kindle device. Through above methods to convert files,you can get 3 formats files: AZW/ MOBI/ TPZ. One thing need to note is that all the above methods don't support Rent mode. That is to say, the downloaded Kindle Books through renting from Amazon can't be converted. If you have some ebooks can't be converted or the the downloaded ebook is damaged, you can try to install Kindle for PC again, then download this ebook again. If you install the old Kindle for PC, and update the Kindle to new version, maybe the ebooks you download via old version can't be converted.
